So when is the duck going to come down and give me $100, anyhow?
- Firefox 2 RC1
- I'll be installing this today. The release notes are over
here.
- OutDisk - Integrate Outlook
file-sending with your FTP server. Trial
here, $39.99 to register.
- System Center Data Protection Manager Version 2 Beta 1 - Another MS server product that I need
to find time to dig into.
- MojoPac - Cram
your Windows install on to a USB key or other portable device and transport it with
you to another Windows XP box so you get your own apps and customizations. Plenty
of people have written happy things about this, but it seems to me that there are
licensing implications that are getting ignored.
-
ADO.NET vNext Entity Data Model Designer Prototype, CTP - Unsupported tool that
indicates some of Microsoft's next-generation Visual Studio design thinking. More
details
here in the ADO.NET team blog.
- Stylus Studio 2007
XML Enterprise Suite - Featuring Java code generation, XSLT and XQuery profilers,
Web service tools, an XML report designer, and lots more. Trial download
here, $595 to buy.
- ANTS Profiler
2.7 - Now Vista-ready, unlike some .NET development tools. Trial version
here, $295 to purchase.
- PostPath 1.0 - Linux-based e-mail server
that claims full protocol-level Exchange compatability. If they can deliver, that
could be pretty attractive pricewise. 12-user download
is free, 100 seats with annual support comes in at $7200. (via
Anne 2.0)
- TradePub.com - Central location for signing
up to receive free trade publications - everything from InfoWorld to SeaFood Business.
Yeah, you have to be a "qualified professional" to get on the lists, but it's not
that hard to figure out what the right answers are to prove you're qualified. Ooh
look, a subscription to Pig International can be yours...
- Plenty of fallout from Tuesday's announcement that VS2003 won't be supported on
Vista.
Frans Bouma and
Eric Bowen are among prominent voices taking Microsoft to task on this.
Plenty of people are ripping Microsoft a new one in comments to
Somasegar's original post too.
Brian Harry tries to mount a defense from Microsoft's point of view.
As for me, this is one more reason why Vista won't be getting installed on any of
my computers. Sorry, I have work to do out here in the real world, where supporting
clients is more important than the emotional impact of the new Vista sound and pretty
glass user interfaces.
-
Sophos tool takes aim at unwanted applications - The next release of Sophos
Antivirus will let network admins block rogue VOIP, IM, and peer-to-peer apps. I
expect to see this become a more common feature in enterprise security products.
-
Inside the Visual Studio 2005 SDK - A little something I did for SearchVB.
- StrikeIron Launches Super Data Pack - 10,000 free hits a month to a selection of StrikeIron's web services.
I smell some mashup potential here. Here's the
signup page with list of services.
-
Microsoft Releases First Broad Beta Developer Kit for .NET Micro Framework -
At least, that's what the press release says. I haven't been able to actually
find a copy.
- Feedvertising - Coming
soon, text ads in Wordpress RSS feeds. It's been tried a few times before; if it
takes off this time, watch for Bayesian ad filtering in RSS readers.

Software development projects are
generally too complex and too important to manage with pencils and sticky notes.
That's why good
project management software can be the difference between shipping
your software on time and infinitely floating ship dates.

OnTime 2006, you'll have access to all of the tools you
need to keep your team focused on the project, rather than having them focused on
