Software

• xp_pcre - Regular Expressions in T-SQL - Just in case T-SQL doesn't confuse you enough, this set of extended stored procedures will bring regular expressions into the mix.
• FeederReader - RSS reader for the PocketPC that supports reading directly from the Internet (ie, not through desktop synch) and can handle podcasts. Now in alpha. (via Mike Hall)
• EMail2DB - Automatically update a database from structured e-mails and send autoresponses. Free trial, pricing from $175.
• Profilers for the CLR - Brad Abrams supplies a long list with links.
• Google Code - Google's new place for open source software that they love.
• A Directory Of Programs Designed For USB Drives - Things you can take along and run from your keychain drive. (via Lifehacker)
• AppForge CrossFire 5.6 - There's a new release of this multi-platform mobile application development software out featuring, among other things, GPS and scanner support.
• SharpTools and Plugins - I've mentioned these freeware tools for Visual Studio .NET before, but they've really gone to town since I last looked. Their most recent addition is an RSS blog reader integrated into your IDE; other bits of functionality here include a debugging viewer for DataSets, a SQL data scripter, a Win32 to .NET API manager, a screen capture tool, and more.

Information

• VB.NET Coding Guidelines - Cory Smith rushes in where Microsoft fears to tread. Feedback welcome.
• Summing it all up: 35 blog entries in 2 days from the BCL Team - An updated list of the information deluge from the .NET Framework Base Class Library team.
• Version Control with Subversion - Online version of the O'Reilly book on the subject. (via Dean Goodmanson)
• Geek Etiquette - Appears to be Miss Manners for the computer set. (via Dean Goodmanson)
• Meet Lucene - A book chapter introducing this popular "information retrieval" library.
• Visual Studio 2005 & SQL Server 2005 Febuary CTP, Indigo and Avalon (WAP) March CTP - Denis Bauer comes up with an install order that gets everything on the same box - whether it'll all work remains to be seen.

Hardware

• Ambient Office Dashboard - ThinkGeek has a preproduction run of this nifty new toy if you'd like to dress up your cubicle with bouncing analog needles indicating the latest stock price or the number of bugs in your code.

Wetware

• DNA Immortality Kit - For thirty bucks you can preserve some of your own DNA (for, apparently, no good purpose) and even get a t-shirt featuring "your specific DNA fingerprint." Not recommended if you're planning to commit any major felonies.

Community

• 15th Annual Jolt Award Winners (caution, PDF link) - Software Development Magazine announced these last night. Winners include Subversion, Eclipse, Hibernate, and FogBugz.
• An Open Letter to the Community - Jay Roxe, VB Product Manager, responds to the "Classic VB" petition. Among other things he makes it clear that the VB6 runtime will ship with Longhorn, and therefore VB6 apps will be supported as part of the Longhorn support cycle. Considering how quickly Longhorn has come to market, that should cover them roughly until the heat death of the universe.
