The
Daily Grind 481
By Mike Gunderloy

You know what I want? A utility that automatically sets all
applications except the one I'm working in to be transparent. Seen anything like
that?
Software
-
Paint.net has a new Web
site.
-
Tips & Tricks: Kill the System Tray Balloons - Registry tweak to get rid
of the annoying things. (via
Eli Robillard)
-
ExpressRip - Freeware CD
to WAV/MP3 tool that seems to do the job with a minimum of fuss. Of course
it probably has a minimum of audio fidelity as well, but since I blew my
ears out with loud rock music 20 years ago I don't really care.
-
CopySourceAsHTML - VS .NET Add-in to grab the current code and convert
it to marked-up HTML for Web reposting. (via
Ryan
Farley)
-
Google Desktop Search -
On the off chance you hadn't heard, Google has new software to index your
e-mail and some (limited to a few extensions) files.
Scott Hansleman has some of the technical skinny. I'm a bit amused to
see various people describing this as revolutionary, when
Copernic,
X1,
Lookout, and others already offer supersets of the Google Desktop
capabilities (though not for free). I'd love to see someone compare the
alternatives based on indexing speed, index size, and search speed, but it
won't be me.
-
Reflector Diff - Preliminary release of code to diff DLLs via Reflector.
(via
Jon Galloway)
-
Notepad++ -
Free source code editor based on the Scintilla editing component. (via
Sean McCormack)
-
BadBoy - Record/playback/regression
test application for Web browsing. Free for up to five users. (via
Sean McCormack)
-
RSScache.com - Caching proxy for RSS
feeds. Looks like they're offering it for free in hopes of making corporate
sales. Would have been nice of them not to spam me to tell me about it,
though.
