The Daily Grind 243

I doubt this indicates anything about the overall economy, but work is picking up in my own little sub-sub-sub-sector of the IT world, with some new consulting filling in the gaps from other jobs that have come to an end. Here's hoping that readers are seeing a similar upswing.

  • Jet 4.0 Service Pack 8 (SP8) Replication File Update - Sheesh, has any product ever had as many service packs as Jet 4.0? Time to put the old horse out to pasture already.
  • Shadowfax - A reference architecture for Service Oriented Architecture projects from the Microsoft Patterns & Practices team, available here in a terribly early version. (via Christian Weyer) [The original Shadowfax]
  • Reponses to SCO from Eben Moglen and Lawrence Lessig. Always nice to see two lawyers agreeing at length with a point I made in a one-liner yesterday. And Groklaw has the story from yesterday's court hearing; SCO has to put up or shut up, according to the judge, by producing the code that they allege is infringing. In a sane world, this would mean that this silly-ass lawsuit would be over in thirty days. However, we don't live in a sane world.
  • Office 2003 XML Reference Schemas - The full set, including Word, Excel, and InfoPath schemas, is now available.
  • Cunard's Queen Mary 2 to sail with onboard help desk - How does "computer systems officer" sound as a job title?
  • insertXpress - Generates INSERT scripts for moving data between SQL Server databases, with flexible options. Free trial, $149 to purchase.
